The update Fitness AG is a Swiss gym chain based in Münchwilen in the eastern Swiss canton Thurgau . With over 50 locations and over 1000 employees, it is one of the leading providers on the Swiss market.

history

Update Fitness AG was founded in 1997 by Michael Ammann in Wittenbach in the canton of St. Gallen . A brother and sister of Ammann were involved right from the start. Update Fitness AG has been majority owned by the Swiss COOP cooperative since April 2016 .

Remote support

method

In 2019 update Fitness AG started a project to remotely support fitness studios during off-peak times. A trainer sits in a central office and looks after the guests on a screen. This method is mainly used at off-peak times when no staff can be on site. This means that small studios in particular can stay open longer. In 2019, the first remote support center went into operation in St. Gallen Gossau , which looks after studios in eastern Switzerland.

criticism

Most critics of the remote support method have concerns about data protection. Update Fitness AG assures, however, that no pictures are recorded.

The professional sensibility of the remote support method is also questioned by critics who are of the opinion that inexperienced athletes in particular need help or precise explanations with certain devices that can only be guaranteed by a trainer present on site.

Other Projects

Update Fitness AG operates its own school called “update Akademie”. The head is the former professional footballer Markus Gsell . Fitness instructors and fitness trainers are trained at the school .

In addition to normal studios, update Fitness AG operates performance centers for top and professional athletes. So use z. B. the footballers of FC St. Gallen the performance center in Gossau.
