Upottery (About the Otter) is a for English county of Devon northeast belonging and about 44 km of the city of Exeter situated village and parish Civil . In 2011 the Parish had 701 residents.
The name of the city is derived from the River Otter , on which the first people settled in Celtic and later Roman times. Upottery was first mentioned in 1191.
During World War II , the Royal Air Force operated an airfield at Upottery (known as RAF Upottery or Smeatharpe ) for the United States Army Air Forces , from which parts of the 101st Airborne Division departed for a landing in Normandy . This mission is discussed in the first episode of Band of Brothers .
