Coordinates: 34 ° 27 ′  S , 149 ° 28 ′  E The Upper Lachlan Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 7,127.4 km² and has about 7,700 inhabitants.

Upper Lachlan is located in the south-east region of the state about 230 km southwest of the metropolis Sydney and 130 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprises 86 hamlets and towns, including Bannister, Bevendale, Biala, Bigga, Binda, Blakney Creek, Blanket Flat, Breadalbane, Broadway, Collector, Cottawalla, Crooked Corner, Crookwell, Cullerin, Dalton, Fish River, Fullerton, Glenerin, Golspie , Grabben Gullen, Gunning, Gurrundah, Hadley, Jerrawa, Kempton, Lade Vale, Laggan, Leighwood, Lerida, Limerick, Lost River, McAlister, Merrill, Mulgowrie, Oolong, Peelwood, Pejar, Roslyn, Taralga, Thalaba, Third Creek, Tuena , Wheeo, Wiarborough, Wowagin, Yalbraith and parts of Middle Arm and Wayo. The Shire Council is located in the town of Crookwell in the center of the LGA, which is home to around 2,100 people.

The Upper Lachlan Shire Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Upper Hunter is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
