Upper Staircase (English for Upper stairs ) represents the upper eastern portion of the Skelton Glacier in East Antarctic Victoria Land . This section is located immediately north of the Firnfelds The Landing and goes into the Skelton-snowfield above.
It was mapped and named in 1957 by the New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958). The glacier section was a stage for the ascent to the polar plateau during this research trip on the march to the geographic South Pole .
