In the Name of the Bible is an American documentary film directed by Daniel G. Karslake in 2007.
The film tells of homosexuality and its perceived conflict with Christianity . It also deals with different interpretations of what the Bible says about same-sex sexuality.
It includes long interview segments with some tenets of religious parents (including former parliamentary group leader Dick Gephardt and his wife, Jane, and the parents of Bishop V. Gene Robinson), their personal experiences of raising homosexual children. And also interviews with their (adult) children.
The film features an animated segment, "Is Homosexuality a Choice?" Which summarizes the current scientific theories about sexual orientation . It is produced by Powerhouse Animation Studios, Inc. and narrated by Don LaFontaine in one of his final narrative roles. The film premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival .
criticism
On the Rotten Tomatoes review website , the movie has a 98% positive rate (based on 43 reviews), Metacritic reports that 73% of 11 reviews were positive.
After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, For the Bible Tells Me So , the film won multiple awards at the Katherine Bryan Edwards Human Rights Prize at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and the Best Documentary Audience Awards at the Seattle Film Festival , Provincetown International Film Festival , Outfest : The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Milwaukee International Film Festival.
