He was elected Bishop of New Hampshire on June 7, 2003 and ordained on November 2 of the same year by Frank Tracy Griswold , Edmond Lee Browning and Albert Theodore Eastman . The fact that he was the first bishop not to hide a same-sex, non-celibate relationship sparked heated controversy within the Anglican Church , with some national churches threatening to divide.

Positions

In an interview with the London Times , Robinson stated that if all lesbians and gays stayed away, "The Church of England would be close to closing, considering how many organists, clergymen, church councils there are". He also found that the threats by other Anglican churches to end communion with his church were “almost as un-Anglican as one can think. After all, our church was founded as a resistance to a central doctrinal authority in Rome. ”Regarding his relationship with the evangelical movement, he said that he was more evangelical than most members of his church because he works as an evangelist :“ When I speak to gay and lesbian organizations , I'm not talking about civil rights, I'm talking about their souls. My goal is to bring them to the church and to Jesus. "
