Uredo anthistiriae-tremulae is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the sweet grasses Themeda tremula and Themeda triandra . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. Since only its secondary crop shape is knownso far, it is classified in the genus Uredo . It may belong to the Phakposora teleomorph genus .
features
Macroscopic features
Uredo anthistiriae-tremulae can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.
Microscopic features
The mycelium of Uredo anthistiriae-tremulae grows as with all Uredo TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. The spermogonia and aecia of the species are not known. The uredia of the fungus growing on the underside of the host leaves are brownish and have yellowish paraphyses . Their uredospores are 20–26 × 17–21 µm in size, mostly ovate to ellipsoidal and spiky. The parts of the species are unknown.
distribution
The known distribution area of Uredo anthistiriae-tremulae includes Sri Lanka and Malawi as well as Uganda .
ecology
The host plants of Uredo anthistiriae-tremulae are Themeda tremula and Themeda triandra . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a presumably macrocyclical development cycle with Spermogonia, Aecien, Uredien and Telien. Due to the lack of aecia and spermogonia, it is not possible to determine whether it changes host .
