Uri Shraga Orbach , also Uri Auerbach , Hebrew אורי שרגא אורבך(* March 28, 1960 in Petach Tikwa ; † February 16, 2015 in Jerusalem ), was an Israeli politician of the HaBajit haJehudi ("Jewish home") and a member of the Knesset . After the parliamentary elections in January 2013 , he became Minister for Senior Citizens' Affairs in the new cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .

Life

Before entering politics, Orbach worked as a teacher, author and journalist. He hosted the talk show The Last Word on Army Radio and wrote for the Israeli daily Jedi'ot Acharonot . In 1996 he founded "Kol Chai" ("Living Voice"), the first radio station for ultra-Orthodox, and in 2003 was one of the founders of the TV station "Techelet" ("Light Blue").

In 2008 Orbach switched to politics and successfully ran for third place in the list of the HaBajit haJehudi party in the 2009 Knesset elections . After the 2013 general election, Prime Minister Netanyahu appointed him Minister for Senior Citizens' Affairs.

In January 2014, Orbach announced that he would take a political break due to health problems. He suffered from a rare blood disease.

He died in 2015, leaving behind a wife and four children. Most recently he lived in Modi'in .
