Urine insects

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

Rock diver

Urine insects or wingless insects (Apterygota) is the traditional collective term for fish , rock jumpers , springtails , double tails and leg teasers . This summary was made on the basis of original features such as the direct development , the structure of the mouthparts and extremities and above all because of the missing wings, which is expressed in the scientific name Apterygota ("wingless"). In contrast, there are the flying insects (Pterygota), which make up the much larger part of the insect fauna. The summary as urine insects was recognized as paraphylum and is accordingly no longer in use in the system today.

Today's system

Of the former urine insects, only fish and rock jumpers are now often counted among the insects . Here they occasionally form their own subclass parallel to the flying insects , which includes all other insects. Phylogenetically, however, the small fish ( zygentoma) represent the sister group of the flying insects (pterygota ) due to their mandibles (dicondyle mandibles) anchored to two joint balls. Both groups together are called dicondylia . The rock jumpers together with all of them in turn form the Ectognatha (Freikiefler)

The springtails, double-tails and leg tasters are separate classes of the superclass six-footed , they are summarized in the taxon sack-tailed (Entognatha).
