Urmas Vadi (born February 28, 1977 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer.

Life

Urmas Vadi graduated from high school in Tartu, South Estonia in 1997 . In 2002 he graduated from Tallinn Pedagogical University with a degree in radio direction.

Urmas Vadi made his debut writing plays for children. In 1999 he won the Estonian drama competition as the youngest author to date with his play Varasta veel võõraid karusid (" Steal strange bears!"). He became known to a larger audience in 2000 with his piece Lendav laev ("The Flying Ship"). With the story Kuidas me kõik reas niimoodi läheme (“How we walk one by one”) he received the renowned Friedebert Tuglas Prize in 2011. It was also published in German in 2014. In 2017 he received the Friedebert Tuglas Prize for his novella Auhind ("The Main Prize"), which was also published in German in 2018.

Urmas Vadi is one of the most featured contemporary authors on the Estonian stage today. Vadi mainly works for theater and radio, u. a. as a moderator of literary programs on the public cultural radio Vikerraadio .
