Kaupo Meiel

Kaupo Meiel (born September 29, 1975 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian poet and critic .

life and work

Meiel graduated from high school in Pärnu in 1993 and then studied Estonian philology at the University of Tartu . Since 1999 he has worked in various newspaper editorial offices, including Postimees . He has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 2008 .

Meiel made his debut in 2006 and since then - in addition to his literary critical work - has regularly published other volumes of poetry. While the critics of his debut volume still noticed the strong editing hand of Sven Kivisildnik , whose publisher the book was published by, his later work has become more independent. His second volume, Estonian Life Stories , shows formal parallels to Mats Traat's life stories from Harala , but in terms of content it is mainly a collection of (witty) puns on Estonian job titles. More and more, humor became a trademark of the author, who was referred to as a "famous Facebook and Twitter clown" in a review of his 2017 book.
