Urmila Joella-Sewnundun

Urmila Joella-Sewnundun (born July 8, 1968 in Paramaribo ) is a Surinamese diplomat and former minister .

In 1997 Joella-Sewnundun received her doctorate in law from Anton de Kom University in Suriname and then worked for two years in the Ministry of Social Affairs, later in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce.

From 2000 to 2005 she was Interior Minister of Suriname in the cabinet of Ronald Venetiaan . In addition to a comprehensive reform program for the public sector, she was particularly active in questions of women's rights and took on the role of the Surinamese delegate of the Inter-American Women's Organization , where she was a member of the executive committee from 2005 to 2007.

In December 2006 she was appointed ambassador to The Hague . In the meantime, Joella-Sewnundun has held other ambassadorial positions for her country in Europe. Since December 2007 she has also held the post of ambassador to the Holy See and in Germany . It has also been accredited in London since June 2008 .

Joella-Sewnundun is married.
