Uroš I. (Raszien)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uroš I was a Serbian Grand Župan from around 1118 to 1140.

After his father Vukan was defeated by Byzantium , Uroš I became Župan of Rascia around 1118 with the support of ićorđe Vojisavljević , the king of Dioclitia . He renounced Byzantium, sought an alliance with Hungary and renewed Rascia's influence on Dioclitia and the coastal countries .

With the death of Đorđe Vojisavljević (approx. 1131), Uroš brought Dioclitia and the coastal lands completely under the rule of Raszien, under which they remained until 1360. He himself became a Serbian Grand Župan. Uroš I. had two sons and a daughter. His eldest son Uroš II followed him as the Serbian Grand Župan, the younger son Beloš became Prince Regent of Hungary (see History of the Serbs of Vojvodina ), his daughter Jelena became the wife of the Hungarian King Béla II.
