Uromyces eragrostidis is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is a endoparasite of anthericum well as Eragrostis - Cypholepis - and Desmostachya - grasses . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. It is spread all over the world.

features

Macroscopic features

Uromyces eragrostidis can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Uromyces eragrostidis grows as with all Uromyces TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. The aecia of the species have 19–23 × 16–20 µm, hyaline aeciospores with a warty surface. The yellow-brown uredia of the fungus grow on both sides of the host's leaves and sheaths. Their light cinnamon to golden brown uredospores are 21–29 × 18–23 µm in size, mostly roughly spherical to broadly ellipsoidal and spiky. The parts of the species are black-brown, compact and uncovered early. The chestnut-brown teliospores are unicellular, usually ovoid and 23–31 × 18–23 µm in size. Their stalk is yellowish to brownish and up to 75 µm long.

distribution

The known distribution area of Uromyces eragrostidis includes warm regions around the world.

ecology

The host plants of Uromyces eragrostidis are for haplonts anthericum ( Anthericum spp.) And Desmostachya bipinnata , Cypholepis yemenica and various Eragrostis TYPES for dikaryotic . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a development cycle with spermogonia, Aecien, Telien and Uredien and completes a host change .

meaning

Its occurrence on teff is economically significant .
