Uromyces gageae is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of yellow stars . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. It iswidespread in the Palearctic .

features

Macroscopic features

Uromyces gageae can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds emerging on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Uromyces gageae grows as with all Uromyces TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Spermogonia or aecia of the species are unknown. The same applies to uredia of the mushroom. The bilateral growing parts of the species are uncovered early. The brown teliospores are unicellular, mostly oval to ellipsoid and 28–25 × 21–25 µm in size. Their stalk is colorless and reaches up to two thirds the length of the spore.

distribution

The known distribution area of Uromyces gageae includes Eurasia .

ecology

The host plants of Uromyces gageae are various types of yellow star ( Gagea spp.). The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species has a development cycle of which only Telien are known so far, Spermogonia, Aecien or Uredien were not found. The teliospores of the fungus ripen in spring. Apparently it is microcyclic , but its exact reproduction has not been fully explored.
