Urs Bucher
Urs Bucher (* 1962 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss diplomat and holds the title of ambassador .
Urs Bucher studied law and joined the diplomatic service in 1990. From 1996 to 2010 he dealt with Swiss European policy, most of it in Brussels. In 2005 he was appointed head of the then EDA / EVD integration office. His most important tasks included preparing the referendum on the free movement of persons agreement with the EU, which affected the ten new EU accession countries , as well as the Schengen Agreement .
From 2010 to 2016 he was the Swiss ambassador to Tokyo.
Urs Bucher has headed the Swiss Mission to the European Union in Brussels since 2016.
