Urs Joseph Flury

Urs Joseph Flury (born August 25, 1941 in Bern ) is a Swiss composer.

Life

Urs Joseph Flury is the son of the Solothurn late romantic Richard Flury . He got his first musical impressions in his parents' house.

After graduating from high school, he completed the violin diploma with Walter Kägi at the Conservatory in Biel . From 1961 to 1967 he was the first violinist in the Flury Quartet. He undertook university studies in philosophy, art history and musicology in Bern and then in Basel , where he attended Hansheinz Schneeberger's master class from 1965 to 1968 and was a member of the Basel Chamber Orchestra .

After completing his studies, Urs Joseph Flury was a violin teacher at the Solothurn City Schools and theory teacher at the Biel Conservatory for a few years and then worked again as a violin teacher at the Solothurn Cantonal School. Urs Joseph Flury has directed the Solothurn Chamber Orchestra and the Orchester du Foyer in Moutier since 1971 .

The compositional work of Urs Joseph Flury is in the neo-romantic-impressionist tradition, but moves in its own tonal language. In addition to chamber music and orchestral works, it also includes instrumental concerts, songs and choral works. In addition, Urs Joseph Flury tries hard to edit and reconstruct little-known treasures and rarities from bygone times. He has performed compositions by the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau , the Polish freedom hero Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko , the brilliant clown and musician Adrien Wettach (Grock), the Austrian playwright Arthur Schnitzler and many others.
