The Ursapharm Arzneimittel GmbH (proper spelling: URSAPHARM ), based in Saarland Saarbruecken is a German pharmaceutical manufacturers.

history

The company was founded in 1974 by the four Saarland pharmacists Albrecht Holzer, Dieter Trox, Werner Buxmann and Werner Bernhard and initially acted as a sales company for ophthalmic products mainly imported from France . Two years later, Ursapharm started up its own production facilities and manufactured its first own preparations for ophthalmology such as eye drops and ointments. From 1984 onwards, general medicine such as minerals, trace elements, blood circulation-enhancing agents and enzymes were added. Ursapharm also expanded its range of services to include contract manufacturing for other pharmaceutical companies.

In the 2016 financial year, Ursapharm generated sales of EUR 130 million with 510 employees. The company's own pharmaceuticals accounted for the largest share of sales, followed by contract manufacturing and license fees received. In addition to various subsidiaries and holdings in Germany, there are subsidiaries in France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal and India.

Products

In addition to the ophthalmic products that have been produced from the start , Ursapharm now manufactures u. a. Allergy agents, blood circulation-enhancing agents and nutritional supplements.

Sponsorship

Ursapharm is the shirt sponsor of the Saarland regional soccer team SV Elversberg and also holds the naming rights to the club's stadium, the Ursapharm-Arena on the Kaiserlinde, formerly Waldstadion Kaiserlinde . Ursapharm managing director Frank Holzer , a former professional footballer who had started his career at DJK Elversberg, was initially president of the club until he switched to the position of chairman of the supervisory board. His successor as president was his son Dominik Holzer, also Ursapharm managing director.
