Ursula Fehlig

Ursula Fehlig (born August 12, 1928 in Vienna ; died September 15, 1982 in Berlin ) was a German-Austrian fashion designer, fashion graphic artist and professor of fashion at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art .

Live and act

Ursula Fehlig began studying architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 1944. After a year she broke off her studies and began to study graphics in Leipzig in 1947 at the University of Graphic Arts and Book Art, which she graduated with a diploma in 1952. Egon Pruggmayer and Max Schwimmer were among her teachers . Then she works as a freelance graphic designer.

From 1954 to 1956 she studied fashion design at the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee , a. a. with Arno Mohr . After graduating , she worked as a fashion designer and fashion graphic artist at the GDR Fashion Institute. In 1957 she switched to the engineering school for clothing technology (today the Berlin University of Technology and Economics ) as a lecturer for design . In 1961 she took over as a lecturer in the fashion department at the Berlin Art Academy, which she headed until her death. In 1969 she was appointed professor for fashion design.

In addition to teaching, she worked for the television of the GDR and equipped television productions, made clothing designs for folk art ensembles and published texts and graphics in fashion and specialist magazines. She was the editor of a costume customer.

Ursula Fehlig was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and between 1964 and 1979 was an elected member of the arts and crafts / design section of the VBK of the GDR. She participated in GDR art exhibitions in Dresden as well as in district art exhibitions. Study trips took her to various countries in the Eastern Bloc.
As an expert, she was a frequent guest on the program Das Professorenkollegium meets of the German TV broadcaster .
