Usermonth (vizier)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usermonth ( Month is strong) was a high ancient Egyptian official who held the office of vizier in Upper Egypt under Tutankhamun .

Usermonth is best known from a stele that was found in Armant . The name of King Haremhab is also on the stele , but it overwrites another king's name. On many of Tutankhamun's monuments, the king's name was replaced by the name of Haremhab, as Tutankhamun's reign was considered illegitimate. This may also have been the case here, with which the vizier probably officiated under Tutankhamun.

Furthermore, not much is known about Usermonth. His mother was a woman named Maia. His father was called Nebmehyt. His brother Huy was High Priest of the Month in Armant. It therefore seems likely that Usermonth came from Armant. It is mentioned in some later Theban tombs, which indicates that it was later given a certain importance. His grave is unknown, but his sarcophagus tub, which was discovered in 1954 in a dilapidated monastery about 10 km north of Qurna , has been preserved. The granite tub stands on runners and was part of a sarcophagus shaped like a mummy. Text columns give the name and title of the user month.
