Uta-Verena Meiwald (born January 1, 1966 in Görlitz ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 2009 to 2019 she was a member of the Left in the state parliament of Saxony .

Life

Meiwald studied from 1984 to 1989 at the University of Education in Dresden and graduated as a certified teacher. After that she worked in school and in after-school care until 1996. From 1997 to 1998 she retrained to become a PR officer and was employed by the PDS in 1998 . She worked there until 2000 when she joined the MP Ingrid Mattern . She worked for them until she moved into the Saxon state parliament.

Meiwald lives in Kesselsdorf near Wilsdruff, is married and has two children.

Meiwald became a member of the SED in 1985 , later also of the PDS and the Left. From 2007 to 2009 she was deputy state chairman of her party. She has been city councilor in Wilsdruff since 2004 and district councilor in the Saxon Switzerland Eastern Ore Mountains district since 2008 . She is also a member of the state board. In September 2009 she moved into the state parliament of the Free State of Saxony via the state list of the party Die Linke Sachsen . There she was a member of the budget and finance committee and the committee for school and sport as well as the sport policy spokesman in her group. In 2019, Meiwald resigned from the state parliament because she only ran for the state election on list position 19.
