Utolér (English Run to Ground ) is a Hungarian - British - Slovak thriller by Zsombor Dyga from 2010 in the announcement of which it says: "Innocent blood was shed ..."

action

The film is based on three parallel running stories. It is set in a run-down Eastern European city in which the daily routine of three people is violently interrupted; they learn that a few hours can be enough to change a life forever.

A boy disappears: It is a gloomy autumn evening when Lukács, the son of the overworked waitress Margó, is suspected of having something to do with the disappearance of a classmate who is missing. Lukácz tells his mother that his friend is locked in the house of the sports teacher, who then wants to find out the truth and goes to look for the missing child with her son.

A woman is being chased: The experienced skater Alma is being chased by a mysterious old man. It turns out he is a retired police officer who is trying to blackmail her with a terrible secret from her past.

A man gets into a dilemma: after his child was murdered years ago, the rescue doctor Péter is repeatedly plagued by depression. One day when he comes across a badly injured patient, he recognizes him as the man who murdered his child. He now faces a difficult decision. Should he save the man's life or take the opportunity and remain inactive or actively take revenge.

production

Was produced Utolér of Európa film. The film recordings were made in Budapest and Miskolc in Hungary , among others . One of the production conditions was that the film had to be shot in English, as it would give it better opportunities for the international market. The film language was English, the Hungarian actors then dubbed themselves in their language.

criticism

The Port.hu site says that Utolér is a multithreaded drama and a borderline thriller that plunges us into the darkness of a journey to find out what horrors are hidden behind our neighbors' door.

Film in Hungary believed that everyone had a story and carried it with them. The film shows six ordinary people in crisis, where one wonders how they behave in extreme situations and what connects their fates. It goes on : Utolér is a multithreading drama and a top-class thriller that takes the audience on a dark, daring journey into a horror scenario of the life of the people next door.

Annamária Kritája said that in the thriller by Zsombor Dyga the hidden and not immediately recognizable sins are almost invisible over a long period of time, because they only become apparent if they cannot be repaired. The film offers slowly building tension that goes far beyond a one-off shudder. The brutality of an uprooted mentally ill man and his inexplicable cruelty are attributed to injuries sustained in the family in childhood. She certified that the actors used strong expressive faces to make suffering tangible.

Oláh-Badi Levente from Filmtett described that for the first half hour while the film was running, nobody looked at their watch and there was no sound or cough to be heard. Balázs Lovas' greatest achievement, even if it gets complicated, is never to lose track for the moment. Despite all the flaws that the film has, it is an above-average Hungarian film. It won't change an individual's life, but it's fun to watch and probably worth it too.

Efes from Port.hu was surprised that this film had taken ten years to prepare, which was a shame as all of the director's films had been better in the past. The greatest merit of the film are the interlocking storylines in space and time. The average movie-goer finds the confusing, intricate plot difficult to understand. It often looks as if the actors in this complicated story are left alone, there is a lack of safe guidance from the director. The film is recommended to those who are happy to get a new Hungarian thriller.
