Athletic career

In the 1975/76 season, Uwe Falkenhahn started his career in national leagues. It began on matchday 9 when he was used as a center forward for BSG Wismut Gera in the second-rate GDR league in the home game against the second team of BSG Energie Cottbus in a 3-0 victory. By the end of the season he played another four GDR league games, in which he also played in attack. 1976/77 Falkenhahn played mostly with the 2nd Wismut team in the third-class district league , with which he was also district champion. In the GDR league he played only one game, on the 15th matchday he was only substituted in the 77th minute for right winger Siegmar Ehrhardt . Also for the season 1977/78 Falkenhahn was initially provided for the district league team again, while the first team played as promoted players in the GDR league. However, when the regular league striker Heinz Zubeck failed in the second half of the season, coach Dietmar Pohl Falkenhahn appointed Zubecks replacement. Falkenhahn's first league appearance was a debacle, because when he came on in the second half, the game Wismut Gera - FC Karl-Marx-Stadt was already 0: 4 and finally ended 0: 5. But Pohl held on to Falkenhahn until the end of the season, so that he finally, always used as a striker, made twelve league appearances. Except for his first assignment, he played the remaining games for the full length of the game. Wismut Gera failed to stay up and had to compete in the GDR league again from 1978/79. Falkenhahn remained in the first team's squad and played five point games as a midfielder at the beginning of the season. In the match on the 6th day of the match between Wismut Gera and Motor Hermsdorf , he was so seriously injured that he could not be used for six months. Only at the end of the season he was able to complete two GDR league games. Falkenhahn was then drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . From November 1980 he was able to play again at BSG Wismut and came to twelve GDR league appearances by the end of the season. For the 1981/82 season Falkenhahn moved to the GDR league promoted progress Weida , where he played two GDR league seasons. In his first season he was called up 21 times in 22 league games, played mainly in central midfield and scored one goal. The BSG progress was relegated to the district league again after a year, but was immediately district champion again and returned to the GDR league for the 1983/84 season. Falkenhahn was again the central midfielder, came back to 21 missions and one goal. Even in the second attempt, progress did not make it to relegation. When the BSG rose to the GDR league for the third time in 1987, Uwe Falkenhahn was 33 years old and was transferred to the 2nd team, which was represented in the fourth-class district class Gera. This left Falkenhahn with six seasons in the national league, where he played twelve times in the league without scoring and was called up 67 times in the GDR league and scored five goals.
