Uwe Helmes (born June 28, 1958 in Siegen ) is a former German soccer player and coach .
Player career
The striker started playing football at Sportfreunde Siegen . Between 1980 and 1981 he worked for Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid and from 1981 to 1983 for MSV Duisburg . 1983 to 1988 he played at SC Fortuna Köln . Then he was again active as a player for the Sportfreunde Siegen until the end of his active career.
Coaching career
At least in the 1996/97 season Helmes trained the A-youth of Sportfreunde Siegen. There, at the beginning of the season, he also took over the coaching position for the D 2 juniors. Since the beginning of the 2005/06 season he was the coach of the reserve team of Sportfreunde Siegen. Previously, Helmes was several years coach of SC Plettenberg, which he led at the end of the 2004/05 season as master of the district league in the state league.
After Ján Kocian's leave of absence on February 4, 2006, he looked after the then second division team of Sportfreunde Siegen as an interim coach. Under Hannes Bongartz as head coach, Uwe Helmes was assistant coach of the Sportfreunde, from May 9th 2006 he was again responsible for the coach of the second team of Sportfreunde.
Functionary career
In June 2007, he resigned from his position as coach in Siegen and switched to Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen as a scout . In May 2013 Helmes was introduced as the sporting director of the district league club VfL Klafeld-Geisweid .
Private
He is the father of the soccer player Patrick Helmes .
