Friedhelm Döhl

Friedhelm Döhl (born July 7, 1936 in Göttingen ; † September 25, 2018 ) was a German composer and music teacher .

Career

Döhl studied at the Music Academy in Freiburg composition and piano, also at the universities of Freiburg and Göttingen music , literature and art history . In 1966 he received his doctorate. phil. in Göttingen with the work of Webern's contribution to the change in style in new music - studies on the requirements, technique and aesthetics of the “composition with 12 only related tones”.

From 1964 to 1967 Döhl was a lecturer at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf . Here he founded the Studio for New Music. From 1969 to 1974 he was professor at the Musicological Institute of the Free University of Berlin . Here he was a member of the Neue Musik Berlin group. In 1974 he was appointed director of the Music Academy of the City of Basel and worked there until 1982. During this time, the studios for electronic music, non-European music, music and theater were founded . From 1980 to 1983 he was President of the International Society for New Music , Section Germany. The Ensemble Modern was founded at this time .

From 1982 he was professor for composition at the Musikhochschule Lübeck , from 1991 to 1994 also its rector . Here he introduced new series of events ( Forum for Young Composers , New Music Workshop ). In 1992, as rector, he was also the initiator of the Lübeck Brahms Festival . Since 1986 he has been a member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg . He was awarded the Bene Merenti commemorative coin by the Hanseatic City of Lübeck .
