Uwe Plonka

Uwe J. Plonka (born June 25, 1956 or 1957 in Hagen ) is a German basketball official .

Life

Plonka played handball , swimming and athletics before he got into basketball. His home club is SV 1970 Blau-Gelb Hagen-Haspe. In this club he was a member of the board from 1979, became the second chairman and was involved in the club life on various occasions, including as a referee. He was also active in the men's basketball team of SV Hagen-Haspe.

In 2013, Plonka was elected to the board of the West German Basketball Association (WBV) as Vice President for Finance , and in the same year he became a member of the Finance Committee of the German Basketball Association . In 2015 he was elected to the office of WBV chairman. According to his own statement, he took up this post "in order to give basketball in North Rhine-Westphalia the status it deserves again." During his term of office, among other things, the conclusion of a cooperation agreement between the West German Basketball Association and the North Rhine-Westphalia Westphalian division of the disabled sports movement “ Special Olympics ”.

In September 2018, Plonka, who works in a leading position in the insurance industry, was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the West German Basketball Association, and in 2019 he received the Golden Badge of Honor of the German Basketball Association. With a view to the European Championship 2021 , where Cologne will be the venue for the preliminary round, Plonka became head of the organizing committee for North Rhine-Westphalia .
