Uwe Scharen

Uwe Scharen (born August 9, 1945 in Rockenau ) is a German lawyer and was presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

Following his legal training, Scharen began his career in 1974 in the higher judicial service in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . There he worked as a probationary judge at the Düsseldorf Regional Court , where he was also appointed judge at the Regional Court in 1978. This was followed in 1984 by Scharen's appointment as judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court , where he was assigned to a civil senate for patent matters and competition law. In 1995 he was promoted to presiding judge at that court.

A year later, Scharen was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice, where he was assigned to the 10th Civil Senate , of which he had been deputy chairman since 2004. This Senate deals primarily with patent and public procurement law .

On April 1, 2009, Scharen was finally given the chairmanship of this Senate by the Federal President at the suggestion of the Presidium of the Federal Court of Justice. He has been retired since September 1, 2010.

Uwe Scharen is u. a. Co-author of the commentary on the patent law justified by Georg Benkard and of the practical handbook The Competition Process published by Hans-Jürgen Ahrens .
