Uwe Zimmermann (born March 28, 1947 in Hamburg ) is a German mathematician specializing in optimization .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1966 at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium in Bonn, Uwe Zimmermann studied mathematics and physics at the University of Cologne from 1968 to 1974 and completed his studies in 1974 with a diploma thesis under Roland Bulirsch . In 1976 he did his doctorate with Rainer Burkard at the University of Cologne with a thesis on combinatorial optimization . From 1974 to 1984 Uwe Zimmermann was an assistant at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Cologne, where he completed his habilitation in 1980. From 1984 to 1986 he was professor at the University of Kaiserslautern , and from April to October 1986 Zimmermann was professor at the University of Trier. From 1986 to 2015 Uwe Zimmermann held a chair for optimization at the Technical University of Braunschweig . His field of work included combinatorial optimization with its applications, especially in the transport and logistics sector.

Zimmermann is married and has two children.
