Uzed is the fourth studio album by the Belgian avant-prog band Univers Zéro . It was published by Cryonic Inc. in 1984.
Creation and publication
Band founder and composer Daniel Denis put together a new line-up for the album. Only Dirk Descheemaeker was involved in the 1983 EP Crawling Wind , and Christian Genet, another founding member, returned. Michel Delory (guitar) and Marc Verbist ( violin ) were guest musicians. Uzed was recorded in Brussels within just two months; it was first released on LP by Cryonic Inc., and also on CD in 1988 by Cuneiform Records .

style
With the line-up change, there was also a stylistic development. The chamber music progressive rock of the previous albums was now supplemented by more electronic instruments and thus seemed tougher. However, the compositional approach with complex, varied and dark pieces was retained.
reception
William Tilland from Allmusic regrets the stylistic development of the band and finds Uzed less exciting and rather inconspicuous. Achim Breiling from Babyblauen Seiten , on the other hand, particularly praises the cello and drumming and describes the album as “one of the most varied and interesting records UZ have made”. The eclipsed magazine included Uzed in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
