Václav Jíra (born August 2, 1921 in Prague , Czechoslovakia , † November 8, 1992 ibid) was a Czech football player , coach and official.

Player career

Václav Jíra started playing football at Union Vršovice. At the age of 14, the midfielder moved to Nuselský SK . In 1940 Jíra went to the neighboring club SK Nusle , with whom he was promoted to the first division in 1942. After five years at SK Nusle, Jíra moved to Bohemians Prague .

For Bohemians Jíra made more than 500 games, including almost 200 in the top Czechoslovak league, in which he scored four goals.

Jíra played six times for the Czechoslovak national team . He made his debut on May 11, 1947 in a 3-1 win against Yugoslavia, his last game he played on December 7, 1952 in a 2-1 draw in Albania.

Coaching career

Jíra was assistant to the Czechoslovak national coach Rudolf Vytlačil at the 1962 World Cup in Chile . In the 1963/64 season he trained Bohemians Prague . From November 1963 to 1965 Jíra was the coach of the Czechoslovak national team. In seven games under Jíra's direction, the team managed only one victory.
