Václav Neckář (born October 23, 1943 in Prague ) is a Czech singer and actor.

Career

Václav Neckář became enthusiastic about acting when he was five when he went to the theater with his parents. He took part in competitions in singing and declamation . In the opera house of Ústí nad Labem he sang the shepherd boy in the opera Tosca .

After graduating from high school, he enrolled for exams at the Prague Art School, which he failed, however. Because he was still drawn to acting, he went to Most and worked there as a lighting technician and took on small roles as an extra . In the play The Dragon is a Dragon he was able to carry a piece of paper across the stage and in the Singspiel The Singing Venice he was needed as the sixth child.

Václav Neckář became internationally known with the lead role in the 1968 Oscar-winning film Love According to the Schedule by Jiří Menzel . He then played next to Helena Vondráčková in the poetic love comedy The madly sad princess . With the song Krokodil Theophil he had a success in 1973 in the GDR . This was followed by other successful songs in the GDR such as "Jorika" and "Nautilus", which showed a different style of music than the crocodile. In 1981 he played in the DEFA western comedy Sing, Cowboy, sing together with Dean Reed .

A stroke in 2002 put his career at an end for the first time, he learned to speak again for several years and learned some of his lyrics.

He made a comeback with the song “Midnight” (Půlnoční) in 2012, which became an anthem in the Czech Republic.

Since then he has been giving concerts again with his group Bazillen, led by his brother Jan Neckář. His current concert program leads through 50 years of his career and the songs of those 50 years.

With 8 million records sold at Supraphon, he is number 2 in sales in his home country.

The musical "mydlovy princ" is running in Prague - a musical with its hits.
