Václav Nosek (born September 26, 1892 in Velká Dobrá , Okres Kladno , † July 22, 1955 in Prague ) was a communist Czechoslovak politician and trade unionist .

Life

Nosek, a miner by profession , had been unionized and a member of the Social Democratic Party since his youth . From 1914 to 1917 he served as a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian Army in the First World War . However, he was prematurely discharged from military service due to his anti-war propaganda. In 1921 Nosek was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KPTsch), and since 1929 he was a member of its Central Committee . From 1925 to 1938 Nosek was a senior functionary of the Red Trade Unions ( Rudé odbory ). In 1939 he was temporarily imprisoned and then emigrated to Great Britain . In exile he was a member of the Czechoslovak State Council in London from 1941 and its deputy chairman from 1942.

From 1945 to 1955 Nosek was a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the KPTsch, from 1945 to 1953 Minister of the Interior. During this time he was instrumental in setting up the Obranné zpravodajstvi as a domestic secret service. From 1953 until his death he was Minister for Labor and Welfare.

In 1955 Nosek was awarded the Order of the Republic ( Řád republiky ).
