Västragårdstenen

The Västragårdsten is a rune stone in the Swedish municipality of Sävsjö .

The stone is in the burial ground at Västragården north of Lake Sävsjön , about three kilometers west of Sävsjö not far from the old road from Sävsjö to Vrigstad .

The stone is three meters high. It is one meter wide and 0.6 meters thick. The inscription on the stone reads, translated into German: Vråe built this stone in memory of his brother Gunne. He died in England.

From VRAE is known that it was a local chief. He probably followed with his brother Gune the Jarl Håkan Eriksson after England . In 1029 the Jarl drowned on the way home to Norway . It was around this time that Vråe erected the stone in memory of his brother who died in England.
