Víðimýrarkirkja
|
Víðimýri is actually a farm in the municipality of Skagafjörður in northern Iceland .
This farm is known for the Víðimýrarkirkja , one of the few remaining peat churches in the country. The farm is about 500 meters south of the ring road and the next larger town, Varmahlíð , is 3 kilometers away.
Unlike the peat yards , both gable walls of the church are made of wood, the side walls are made of peat and the roof is covered with grass. This church was built in 1834. Churches have stood here since the saga.
