Víctor Fayad

Víctor Fayad , full name Víctor Manuel Federico Fayad , (born February 9, 1955 in General Alvear , Argentina , † August 7, 2014 in Mendoza ) was an Argentine politician.

Fayad successfully completed his studies at the law and social science faculty of the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in the late 1970s and has been a lawyer ever since. In the course of his political career he was elected to the city ​​council ( concejal ) in Mendoza for a period of four years after the end of the dictatorship in 1983 as a representative of the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) . In 1987 he took over the office of Intendente of the city for the first time . He ran in 1991 for the position of governor of the province of Mendoza , but was defeated by Rodolfo Gabrielli ( Partido Justicialista ). In 1993 he was elected member of the Cámara de Diputados de la Nación Argentina for the UCR. In 1995 he ran again unsuccessfully for governorship. In 2007 he was again Intendente of the Argentine city of Mendoza and held this post after his re-election in 2011 until his death.

Fayad died of complications from cancer of the mediastinum, diagnosed about a year earlier, in Hospital Italiano , where he had been admitted five days earlier.
