The Vöhlin-Gymnasium is one of two state high schools in Memmingen .

history

The name of the grammar school is derived from the wholesale and patrician family Vöhlin . She was one of the most important families in Memmingen. The coat of arms Vöhlin shows in silver a black bar, topped with three silver capital letter P . One of the possible meanings is: Piper Peperit Pecuniam , which means: The pepper brought the money . In the city and throughout Europe, she played a major role through her long-distance trade. Her imperial city politics, the pious foundations and many artist commissions made her famous. The patrician family Vöhlin appointed the mayor of the former imperial city twenty-seven times.

The Vöhlin high school was the traditional girls' high school in the city of Memmingen. The roots go back to the Höhere Töchterschule from 1862 in the premises of the Elsbethen School. In 1924 the girls' secondary school became the secondary school for girls. In 1931 the company moved to the Hallhof. In 1932 the school was a so-called municipal lyceum , a six-class high school for girls. After the Second World War , the move to the now vacant Reichshainschule took place in 1956. 1966 is the actual founding year as a school form of a grammar school. In 1983, after moving to the Kaisergraben, boys were also accepted for the first time. In 1993 the European Gymnasium was introduced. In 2012, an extensive renovation of the building at Kaisergraben was completed. In 2015 the grammar school received the European certificate from the Free State of Bavaria for its commitment to the European idea.
