Victor Everett Kinsey (born 1909 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † July 23, 1978 in Detroit , Michigan ) was an American eye researcher and biologist. He was director of the Institute for Eye Research at Oakland University .

life and work

Everett Kinsey graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in 1931. He then worked with Nicolas Rashevsky in mathematical biology and received his doctorate in Pittsburgh. Although he pursued basic research and no clinical ophthalmologist was, he was in 1940 by David Cogan in the Howe Laboratories of Harvard University fetched. In 1950 he became professor of ophthalmic chemistry at the School of Medicine of Wayne State University and deputy director of the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit.

In 1968 he founded the Eye Research Institute (ERI) at Oakland University with Venkat N. Reddy and was its director. In 1975 he retired.

He researched the causes of premature retinopathy in newborns (caused by oxygen therapy, as proved by Arnall Patz ), researched the mechanisms of corneal transparency, formation of eye fluid and its abnormalities in glaucoma, fluid secretion and fluid dynamics in the eye, the mechanism of its formation of cataracts and the metabolism of the lens.

In 1957 he received the Lasker ~ DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award , in 1952 the Proctor Medal of the Association for Research in Ophthalmology and he received the Warren Triennial Prize.
