V. Selvaganesh

V. Selvaganesh (born September 17, 1972 in Chennai , India ) is an Indian percussionist who has its musical origins in Carnatic music (South Indian classical music). He is a leading Kanjira (South Indian frame drum ) player and is also known under the name "Chella S. Ganesh".

Selvaganesh is the grandson of TR Harihara Sarma , who founded the Sri Jaya Ganesh Tala Vadya Vidyalaya (Sri JGTV school) in Chennai .

In 1993 he was on a European tour with the well-known tabla player Zakir Hussain , his father Alla Rakha and his own father TH Vinayakram .

Selvaganesh gained world fame through his collaboration with John McLaughlin as part of the Remember Shakti project , in which he partially replaced his father.

Today he teaches carnatic percussion instruments at the Sri JGTV School, composes, records albums and is with dr. Joel and his brother, the carnatic singer Mahesh , are members of the band dr JSM . Their album Turn on the dreams , a mixture of Indian and Celtic styles, was released in 2005. The first album under his name, "Soukha", was released in 2006.

In addition to John McLaughlin, Selvaganesh also played with the Swedish bass player Jonas Hellborg and the Indian musicians M. S. Subbulakshmi , ML Vasanthakumari , Gayathri , Jayaraman , U. Shrinivas , Ganesh , Kumeresh , D. K. Jayaraman , T. N. Seshagopalan , Kadri Gopandalnath and Ramachandalnath .
