ML Vasanthakumari

ML Vasanthakumari ( Madras Lalithangi Vasanthakumari ; born July 3, 1928 in Madras , † October 31, 1990 ) was an Indian singer of carnatic music . Along with DK Pattammal and MS Subbulakshmi, she is one of the most important representatives of this South Indian musical tradition.

Vasanthakumari was the daughter of the musicians Lalithangi and Kuthanur Ayyaswami Iyer. As a teenager she sang with her mother and was trained by her, later GN Balasubramaniam was her teacher, whose singing style she adopted.

Vasanthakumari received a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1970.

Her daughter Srividya was an actress.
