Handball GDR Oberliga (men) 1971/72
The handball GDR league of men in the 1971/72 season was held to determine the GDR champions in indoor handball .
Season course
As in the previous season, ten teams took part in the league. The defending champion was SC Dynamo Berlin , which, however, could not build on the performance of the previous year and only came in sixth. He was replaced by SC Leipzig , which won his first title in men's handball. Since the women had also won the championship, SC Leipzig made the double for the first time. The BSG ZAB Dessau was the only newcomer to qualify for the 1971/72 season via relegation . In 1972 the bottom of the table also used the relegation to secure relegation.

A total of 3,198 goals were scored in the 90 Bundesliga point games played. As in the previous season, Heinz Flacke from SC Magdeburg was again the top scorer this time with 154 goals. In the game BSG Motor Eisenach - SC Empor Rostock the most goals were scored at 24:29. The SC DHfK Leipzig achieved the highest victory in the home win over BSG Motor Eisenach with 28:12 goals.
