Main building of the clinic, 2012

The VAMED Rehabilitation Clinic Ahrenshoop was founded in 1993 as an independent spa facility in the Baltic Sea resort of Ahrenshoop for rehabilitation purposes. In 2012 the clinic became part of the Helios clinics . VAMED has been the owner since 2018 .

history

The facility was built from 1992 on a site south of Dorfstraße near the park, which was later designated as the Ahrenshooper Holz nature reserve , and not far from the Baltic Sea beach in Ahrenshoop. During the GDR era, the vacation home of the Buna Chemical Combine , which was called Dünenhaus because of its location, had been on this area since the 1970s . With the German reunification and the liquidation of the chemical combine, the home was given up.

On April 2, 1993, a new building opened on the site, comprising the four departments of internal medicine / cardiology (80 beds), orthopedics (75 beds), neurology (73 beds) and oncology (65 beds).

In March 2012, the Helios Group took over the sponsorship of the spa facility. The Ahrenshoop Clinic has been part of the Austrian company VAMED since June 2018 .

According to its own statement, the VAMED Rehabilitation Clinic is one of the most important rehabilitation clinics in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

In 2014, 2016 and 2018 the facility received the medical rehabilitation seal of approval in tested quality .

structure

The four above-mentioned departments have been continuously developed scientifically and in terms of equipment since they were founded. In the meantime there has been a finer subdivision into internal medicine , cardiology , neurosurgery , neurology , oncology and orthopedics . All areas are accompanied by intensive rehabilitation medicine, for which around twenty-five people are deployed: physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and psychologists.

The offshore beach area is used for therapy purposes, also for the leisure time of the rehabilitation patients.

The clinic buildings

The building complex is located in the middle of a lagoon, beach and forest landscape directly at the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park .

View of the multi-purpose building of the clinic

The new clinic's floor plan forms an irregular cross with the longest wing in a north-east-south-west position. At the joint , a square connection enables the transitions between the wings. Three main parts of the building are four-story, towards Dorfstraße a flat multi-purpose building was inserted in the corner (see picture). Among other things, the canteen and a therapy pool are located here. A Kneipp pool is attached to the outside area.

The former holiday home consists of a thatched two-storey building in the style of a fisherman's house with a rectangular floor plan and a longitudinally rectangular solo building in the same architectural style arranged at right angles to it. The two buildings of the holiday home have been preserved and have served as the headquarters of the clinic administration since their renovation; the dune house houses a publicly accessible cafeteria and also appears to be used privately.
