The Vamed AG (proper spelling: VAMED AG) is an Austrian company, which is engaged in the planning, construction and operation of health projects. She founded Voest Alpine in 1982 to complete the General Hospital of the City of Vienna . In total, the company provides services for 890 healthcare facilities with 205,000 beds worldwide.

Vamed became internationally active for the first time in 1984 and has supplied the entire facility for eight hospitals in Iraq . This was followed by the implementation of a health care program in four hospitals on behalf of the Nigerian Ministry of Health. From 1986 orders from Malaysia , China and Russia followed . Vamed has implemented international reference projects such as the Charité in Berlin , the Al Ain Hospital in Abu Dhabi and the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health in Kazakhstan .

In 1998, Vamed entered thermal and health tourism with its first thermal bath in Geinberg . In 2016, the company provided services for around 840 healthcare facilities with 193,000 beds worldwide and is a PPP pioneer ( public-private partnership ) in the healthcare sector (so far 26 PPP models in Austria and Germany ).

The Vienna General Hospital, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe with 29 clinics and institutes with a total of around 1,800 beds, is still an important customer today. Vamed has also been entrusted with the technical management of the AKH since 1986. In Germany, the Vamed is responsible for managing the entire service area (excluding the medical services) of the Berlin University Hospital Charité.

The largest hospital in North Africa, the Tripoli Medical Center, was also managed by Vamed. Vamed is now responsible for overall operational management in 51 health facilities worldwide. Vamed's business areas include clinics and hospitals, thermal baths and wellness resorts, spa and rehabilitation centers as well as laboratory and research facilities.

Vamed AG is also the market leader in Austrian health tourism and medical wellness (Vamed Vitality World: around 2.6 million guests, 9 resorts in Austria) as well as the leading private rehabilitation provider in Austria.

In 1982 Vamed was founded as a project company for the completion of the General Hospital of the City of Vienna (AKH). As a result, the company also organized health projects outside the Vienna General Hospital: from 1984 in the Middle East, from 1985 in Africa and from 1987 in Asia . In addition, activities in building and property management started in 1986 . Since 1989 Vamed has been involved in the overall management of spa operations, since 1991 in hospital management and since 1993 in project development.

In July 1996 Vamed, which until then had been 100 percent state-owned via ÖIAG (today: Österreichische Beteiligungs AG), was transferred to 77 percent to the German health care group Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA and 10 percent to B&C Holding sold. In addition, Österreichische Beteiligungs AG still holds the remaining 13 percent today. Since 1998, Vamed has also been involved in the overall management of thermal spa projects.

Projects in Latin America and activities in nursing homes followed in 2008 . In 2013, Vamed implemented the 20th PPP model. In 2017, Vamed implemented over 800 projects in over 80 countries and 25 PPP models on 5 continents.

In 2018, Vamed acquired the rehabilitation and care business from Helios Germany . Vamed thus expanded its position in rehabilitation and care to 67 healthcare facilities. In the same year, Vamed implemented over 900 projects in around 90 and 25 PPP models on five continents.

Vamed's services are divided into two areas: project business and service business. Vamed's project business includes consulting, project development, planning, turnkey construction and financing solutions for healthcare facilities. Vamed's service business has a modular structure and encompasses the entire range from facility management (technical, commercial and infrastructural services) to overall management of health facilities, which also includes responsibility for medical and nursing tasks. Vamed has been represented in Germany with its headquarters in Berlin since 1990 .
