VP7

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VP7 is a proprietary format and associated video codec for lossy compressed video data . It is an incarnation of TrueMotion , a range of video codecs and formats developed and distributed by On2 Technologies . It was presented in January 2005, released in March 2005 and has been used free of charge for private purposes ( VP7 Personal Edition ) since July 2005 . On2 advertised it as a superior solution for competing formats such as H.264 and VC-1, with up to 50% better compression than its predecessor VP6 , which was used in particular in Adobe Flash videos.

use

It is used in IP telephony software for video conferences, especially in Skype 2.0, AOL AIM , Move Networks , Viewpoint Media Player , and Tencent Messenger / QQ . The US radio networks ABC and FOX stream video content in VP7 to the web via a solution from Move networks with an additional module for the Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers.
