The WSS Wintores ( Russian Винтовка Снайперская Специальная "Винторез" , "Wintores special sniper rifle", GRAU index 6P29) is a silenced Russian sniper rifle . It fires special subsonic ammunition in the 9 × 39 mm caliber . The rifle is designed for a range of up to 400 meters and is characterized by its integrated silencer, almost complete silence and a good man-stopping effect . High precision is guaranteed up to a distance of 200 meters. The Wintores has a continuous fire facility for defense situations and achieves a theoretical rate of fire of almost 700 rounds per minute. In such a case it is possible to use the AS Wal's 20-round magazine and fire in short bursts.

The weapon has been in use since 1987. It was used in the Soviet-Afghan war , in the termination of the Beslan hostage situation, and in the war in Georgia . It was used most often in the Chechen wars . It is part of the regular equipment of the Interior Ministry troops, the Spetsnaz and the Russian long-range reconnaissance aircraft.
