EW media and congresses
The EW media and Congress GmbH is a company in Berlin, which specializes in trade media and events for the energy industry. The target group of the publishing house, founded in 1951, are employees in public utilities as well as municipal and regional utilities in Europe. The shareholders are the VDE Verlags GmbH and the BDEW - Federal Association of Energy and Water Management eV In addition to Berlin, there is another facility in Offenbach.
Company history
The publishing house originated in 1948, when the rebuilding of the electricity supply in the destroyed post-war Germany could not be managed: imports from abroad were necessary. In order to be able to carry them out quickly and uniformly, the import company of the electricity works mbH (EdEW) , based in Hamburg , was set up at the suggestion of the working group of the regional associations of electricity works (AdEW) . In 1949 moved EDEW together with the ADEW over to Frankfurt am Main. When the German electrical industry was able to meet the demands placed on it again, the EdEW's task was essentially fulfilled. In 1951 it was decided to convert it into the Verlags- und Wirtschaftsgesellschaft der Elektrizitätswerke mbH (VWEW) and the company's purpose was changed accordingly. This marked the beginning of the company's publishing activities as a specialist magazine and book publisher with the task of making publications by the Association of German Electricity Works (VDEW), founded in Berlin in 1892, accessible to a wide range of interested parties.
In 1951 the VDEW was newly founded in Frankfurt; in 2000 it was named the Association of the Electricity Industry (VDEW) . In October 2007 it was decided to merge the entire German energy and water industry to form a new association for gas, electricity, district heating as well as water and wastewater. The following four associations have merged to form the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW) : the Association of the Electricity Industry (VDEW) , the Federal Association of the German Gas and Water Management (BGW) , the Association of Network Operators (VDN) and the Association of Network Companies and Regional energy supplier in Germany (VRE) .
Two magazines , the electricity industry (today: ew ) and the electricity , formed the basis for the expansion of VWEW publishing production. The book business started with the energy industry's ring binder and the VDEW membership directory . In addition to the hitherto mainly technical and economic publications , advertising and advisory materials have taken up a large part of publishing production since the 1960s, including, for example, The Electric Cooking , also known as the Blue Cookbook . The publisher also expanded its range to include teaching media . After the takeover of Heidelberger Energie-Verlag in 2000, the specialist publisher called itself VWEW Energieverlag GmbH . EW Medien und Kongresse GmbH was created through the merger of VWEW Energieverlag GmbH and BGW Kongress GmbH on October 1, 2009 .

Trade journals
The publisher publishes the specialist journals ew , netzpraxis , et , EuroHeat & Power and taxes in the energy industry in various languages. In 2019, the magazines ew, et, netzpraxis and taxes of the energy industry were transferred to VDE-Verlag.
Events
The Events division organizes around 500 events annually for the German and European energy industry: information days, meetings, seminars and congresses - including the BDEW congress , the specialist congress “Treffpunkt Netze”, “PMRExpo” or the “Fachkongress Netztechnik”.

The online portal www.energie.de has been operated as a knowledge and career portal for the energy sector since April 2007 .
