history
The event was launched in 1983 by the Association of the Electricity Industry –VDEW– eV (predecessor organization of the BDEW) and was called the “VDEW General Assembly” at the time. This annual meeting has been renamed the "VDEW Annual Conference" over the years. Since only VDEW members were allowed to take part and there was interest outside the group of members to take part in this event, the VDEW congress finally came about, whereby the general assembly continued. Initially, the congress was always held in different cities in order to strengthen the connection between the members. Since 2003, the capital Berlin has hosted the BDEW congress in order to intensify the exchange between member companies and politicians.
The event takes place regularly under a current motto . Well-known personalities from the energy and water industry and politics give lectures, present their opinions, ideas and possible solutions and thus contribute to the formation of public opinion.
On June 18 and 19, 2007, the general assembly of the associations BGW , VDEW, VDN and VRE decided to merge these associations into the BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft eV This merger meant that the VDEW congress was also renamed the BDEW congress has been.
