Association of network operators

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association of Network Operators e. V. - VDN - the VDEW was an association of companies that operate power grids in Germany. The VDN differentiated its members, the network operators, into distribution network operators (around 390 member companies) and transmission network operators (there are exactly four in Germany).

The successor organization for the field of technical regulation is the Forum Network Technology / Network Operation (FNN) in the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE). The other activities remained with the successor association of the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW).

history

VDN was on 13 June 2001 by the merger of the German Verbund (DVG) and the Section for networks of VDEW . In the public he has become known above all as one of the key associations that participated in the association agreement in the course of the liberalization and regulation of the electricity market.

The VDN was one of the four legally independent professional associations of the Association of the Electricity Industry (VDEW). In October 2007, the VDN merged with the BGW , the VDEW and the VRE to form the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW).

In the course of the reform of associations in the energy industry in 2007, in addition to the representation of political interests, the technical regulation for electricity network operators had to be reorganized. The starting point for the separation of lobbying work and technical regulation was a. the demands of the energy supervisory authorities for the neutrality and independence of technical regulation from political corporate interests. Therefore, in June 2008, the network technology / network operation department was outsourced as the Network Technology / Network Operation Forum (FNN) and integration in the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE).
