Vagn Aage Bangsborg

Vagn Aage Bangsborg (born May 28, 1936 in Slagelse ) is a former Danish cyclist .

Athletic career

His first major success was winning the traditional Roskilde Race (Stjerneløbet) in 1957. In 1958 he was a member of the Danish national team that started in the International Peace Tour . In the following year 1959 he drove this tour and finished 11th, his best result in four starts was fourth in 1960 , in 1961 he finished 5th in the overall classification.  In the road race for the Nordic championship he came second behind the Swede Göran Karlsson ; with the Danish team he won the team time trial . He succeeded in the latter again in 1964. In 1961 he also drove the Tour de l'Avenir , but could not finish it. Bangsborg started for the clubs Slagelse CR and FIX Rødovre .

Probably his greatest success was winning the silver medal at the UCI Road World Championships in 1962 in the team time trial behind Italy . He was a member of the street foursome at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome when his teammate Knud Enemark Jensen collapsed after about 20 kilometers and died shortly afterwards.
