Vaike Pilvistu

Vaike Pilvistu (until 1940 Vaike Brenner , from 1950 Vaike Piirimaa , born August 17, 1926 in Mäo , † March 6, 1993 in Põlva ) was an Estonian poet .

Life

Pilvistu grew up in Järva County and graduated from high school in Viljandi in 1942 . She then studied at the Botanical Garden Research Center in Polli and at the vocational school in Vana-Võidu , which she graduated in 1946. She then worked as an agronomist in various places, but was later disabled as a result of an accident at work. She died in Põlva and is buried in the Põlva-Roosma cemetery.

Pilvistu made his debut in a provincial newspaper in 1950 and later published poetry in almanacs. Her first book was published in 1982, and two more followed. Some poems have also been translated into Finnish.

Pilvistus' poetry is conventional in shape and, above all, leaves the impression of “fresh air”, as the poet Hando Runnel put it in view of her debut. They reflect the life experience of a person living in the countryside. This of course makes her a representative of the “good old days” in which, unlike Krista Kajar and Astrid Reinla , who made her debut at the same time, she threatens to persist. Accordingly, her further poetry has been judged cautiously, and today the poet is largely forgotten.
