The Vaipo Waterfall (also Ahuii , Ahuei ) is a waterfall on the island of Nuku Hiva , in the Marquesas archipelago of French Polynesia . The waterfall falls 350 m (1148 ft), making it one of the highest waterfalls in Polynesia , outside of New Zealand and Hawaii . It is a so-called "horsetail-type" waterfall, that is, with a single jet and ranked 199th in the world.

The waterfall is located in the Hakaui Valley , about 6 km west of Taiohae . A footpath leads north from Hakaui on the coast in the valley. The upper edge of the valley is made of basalt and the water shoots out of the deeply buried canal in a single jet. On the way to the bottom, a large part of the water spreads and the resulting mist covers the walls of the canyon.
